War Heroes

War surely ends someday… but what might stay forever is the agony of a mother who loses her son. Silent pain of a father who loses his smiles. Emptiness of a wife who loses meaning of her life. And helplessness of a little child who for sure knows one thing, he has nobody for whom he can shout Pappa…

Victory comes at the cost of all such lives. One death in the family takes away glitter from many eyes. But that is how it works. Someone has to be ‘up there’. Someone has to choose this sacrifice. Someone has to develop an indomitable will to bring smile of ‘freedom’ on my face by forcing his beloved ones to mourn…everyday.

Today morning I was read an article in Economic Times which talks about our attitude towards such war heroes. It talks about ‘India Gate’ and ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’…a monument of ‘Unknown Soldier’ that is turning merely into weekend picnic point for fresh air and scenic background for photographs…

It’s a war against our ‘given’, ‘accepted’, ‘natural’ way of thinking. These men dared to do lift a weapon and enter the field. So can I. All I need is to look beyond myself. Think of greater good. Seek happiness in spreading unknown smiles..

Also it’s nice if you are not ‘known’. For there will be times when nobody, except those with your photograph close to their hearts, will spare a drop of tear for you…
