On Long Weekends

Long long ago there used to be no weekends. Only a day called Sunday. This was the time when weekly holiday meant everything. This was the time of childhood.

Now the week ends with lot of noise. Friday is usually not a dry day. Weekend fever catches on and stays until Sunday afternoon. By Sunday evening the next week actually begins in our mind. Come Monday and we are all geared up for a long week ahead of us before reaching yet another weekend. Life goes on, week after week.

But there is another phenomena called Long Weekend. This is when you get a holiday on a Friday along with Saturday and Sunday. This is when you start thinking what to do with three consecutive holidays and eventually end up deciding something.

Next three days I am planning for a short trip around Nagpur. Amravati – Shegaon – Lonar and back. Pretty excited about Lonar crater, all previous plans din’t work out. Sunday morning I would get a chance to experience what it feels to stand inside a 50,000 year old epic astronomical cavity!
Longer weekends are good times to start and finish a good book too. Travelling will give me lot of scope to do that and many other desirable acts.

As long as they do, long live long weekends.
