Mother and Incense Stick

I think an incense stick symbolizes ‘mother’ in many ways.

An incense stick is a form of prayer offered to the God. It burns selflessly giving everything it has and helps us express our affection towards God. A mother also works relentlessly spreading the fragrance of love around her. Her caring, compassion and humility helps the child reach his/her aspirations in life.

She works expecting nothing in return but always makes her best effort in doing what she does.Imagine of her service as the smoke that silently, swiftly goes into the ether. It makes no claims nor seeks any attention. She never expects praise. She is as strait and simple as an incense stick. No twists, no turns.

And when it is all over the stick leaves its ashes behind for us as ‘his’ blessings. These ashes are the true source of all good things that happen to us. They are colorless, formless, tasteless yet a when we apply a pinch on our forehead we feel ‘his’ power growing within us.

A mother remains forever in everything we do for rest of our life. She is indeed not what we offer to God. She is ‘his’ best offering to us in ‘this’ world.
