IT here stands for Information Technology.
Randomly ask a teenager about his/her plans after passing Higher Secondary School (10 +2)..Bang comes the answer in a jiffy … IT Engineering!!
So then ask, Why? And comes another quicker …It offers bright career prospects…like global exposure, good lifestyle, handsome pay package, flexible working environment blah blah!
Then ask, how are you so sure of all these? Answer – Observation, hearsay, gossip with friends, Media, Elders, Parents and What not! …Big gamble isn’t it? Indeed most semi-literate parents and family members push their children into IT Engineering in hope that like millions of Indians, their ward too will make most out of life with a tag of ‘Engineer’ on their brow. Nothing against parents’ lack of understanding; but certainly tuition providers, classes, so-called guides, astrologers, pundits, experts and expats are culprits who spoil young minds.
Seldom are children told to explore various spheres of education. Most decisions are laden on kids with an added sense of responsibility to meet expectations. This lack of exposure leads to closed minded pursuit of survival rather than open minded pursuit of excellence. Indian IT sector was at its peak about 10 years back. But not anymore. Let us accept this fact and turn to something else for few years. Other avenues like humanities are not a bad way to begin with.
Go against the tide… Just Do IT, …Inverted Thinking.
