Grape, Wine and Grapevine

Three predominant ‘essentials’ around which organisations revolve are: Grape (food/refreshments), Wine (alcohol/partying) and Grapevine (informal communication that breeds gossip).

Grapevine communication or simply ‘grapevine’ means open, free flowing, unstructured and often candid communication among people irrespective of their position in the hierarchy of organisation.

Pros – 
Helps in building social network at work
Improves engagement with co-workers
Boosts trust and participation at work

Cons – 
If rampant, leads to rumors
Generates biases about fellow workers
Reduces productivity at work

Grapevine may be used to full fill personal agendas too. Subjectivity takes control of objectivity and being human we tend to find intentions in others mistakes. Plans become plots.

So have all of the above essentials but exercise ‘control’! 

Right from Ramayana days, loose talks have resulted in making or breaking relationships. 

I hope Kaikeyi is not listening.
