One can take one of the two routes to lead his professional life. One is mediocre and soft. The other is above average but hard. Depending on one’s values, resoluteness and determination, one will opt for his/her choice. Hard ways always give discomfort during initial phases of career. But this choice pays off in long run. Efforts get rewarded because bosses are capable of differentiating between pretentious candidates and competent workers. It’s good to believe in this fact even if it is disturbing.
An opportunist knows how to get his work done smartly. But what he fails to understand is that by denying to go an extra mile he has compromised on learning. Attitude towards learning is fruit of one’s labour. It does not come cheap. But once it get’s developed, it stays.
Several examples prove this point. Sports and business are ripe with many. Academics is not short of them either. Everywhere rewards are commensurate with efforts. Higher the better. Lower the bitter. Low hanging fruits only teach us how to grab those at hand. But how long will fruits hang at arm’s length. A day would come when we shall be forced to push ourselves to the tree top. Why wait for that day then!
